Intersegmental Traction

Intersegmental traction is a way of introducing passive motion into the spine for the purpose of stretching spinal joints and increasing mobility.  Leave your worries and stress behind you and relax while receiving this therapy.  During the session your ligaments and muscles will be gently stretched and the blood flow and oxygen to your discs, ligaments and muscles are increased, thereby improving balance, strength and mobility.

Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that has been used by therapists since the 1940s.  Ultrasound is applied using a wand or probe put in direct contact with the skin.  Ultrasound gel is used on the surface of the head to reduce friction and improve the transmission of the ultrasonic waves.  The sound waves that pass through the skin cause a vibration of the local tissues which can cause a local heating effect though usually no heat will be felt by the patient.  Ultrasound has been show to cause increased tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown.  The increase in local blood flow can help reduce local swelling, chronic inflammation, and may promote bone fracture healing.  The intensity of the ultrasound can be adjusted depending on the desired effect.

Interferential Current (IFC)
IFC has been used in physical therapy treatment for many years and has been proven to be very safe.  The IFC machine produces electrical currents that pass through the affected area of the patient.  The current tends to penetrate deeper than other electrical modalities, such as TENS, and has a number of physiological effects that have therapeutic value.
The physiological effects include:

  1. Increases blood flow to promote healing and reduce swelling, resulting in the removal of damaged tissue.
  2. Stimulates local nerves providing a pain reducing effect.
  3. Stimulates muscles to overcome some of the muscle inhibition (relax and contract) often caused by local injury and swelling.

The Benefits of Massage
Massage therapists use a variety of techniques to address soft tissue problems.  Gentle kneading and stretching lengthens contracted and irritated muscles and fascia.  Painful sprains and strains, as well as myofascial adhesions, can be addressed directly with massage techniques  that improve circulation and stimulate healthy separation and realignment of injured fibers.  In general, massage increases circulation.  This reduces painful swelling and inflammation, and promotes healing by removing waste products and bringing nutrients to your tissues.

Massage Supports Chiropractic
You can benefit in a number of ways by adding massage therapy to your chiropractic care program.  Recovery is normally faster and more complete when you address multiple components of your pain.  Chiropractic treatment often proceeds more easily, with less discomfort, when soft tissue has been relaxed with massage.  You may be less anxious and more ready to receive chiropractic adjustment after a relaxing massage.

Types of Massage

Swedish Massage

This is a gentle form of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration and tapping to help relax and energize you.

Deep-tissue Massage

This massage technique uses slower, more forceful strokes to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, commonly used to help with muscle damage from injuries.

Sports Massage

This technique focuses on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements.  Sports massage is geared towards athletes of every kind and massage technique is specific to each athlete.
